Driving Directions 

This workshop will focus on the identification and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) across the lifespan, symptoms and characteristics of ASD, and those that differentiate and co-occur with othe rmedical and psychological conditions. Dr. Pandey will provide an understanding of challenging behaviors and the behavioral interventions that can be implemented across various settings. Attendees will learn about special education, behavioral health and medical health systems as related to ASD.

Workshop Objectives

At the end of this activity the learner will be able to:

  • Describe autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and accompanying conditions
  • Explain the impact of diagnosis on the family system
  • Discuss special education, behavioral health, and medical healthsystems as related to ASD
  • List strategies that can be used in specific settings.

Presenter: Juhi Pandey, Ph.D., is a pediatric neuropsychologist and scientist at the Center for Autism Research (CAR) as well as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. After receiving her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester, Dr. Pandey worked as a research assistant at The Kennedy Krieger Institute at John's Hopkins University on projects studying infants at risk for developing autism and other developmental disorders. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Connecticut, where she ran a younger sibling study and investigated the M-CHAT as an effective screening tool for autism spectrum disorders in toddlers, and conducted comprehensive autism evaluations. Dr. Pandey has a special interest in the early identificationand diagnosis of ASD, clinical phenotyping, and brain-behavior relationships that impact diagnosis and treatment outcome and plays a clinical role on a number of infant and toddler as well as school-age studies at CAR.

Continuing Education Credits 

Three continuing education credits will be offered for PA Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychologists, NBCC Counselors, and educators under Act 48.

NBCC: Foundations Community Partnership (FCP) is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.

Psychologists: Foundations Community Partnership is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education to psychologists. FCP main- tains responsibility for this program and content.

PA Social Workers: PA State Board accepts APA and NBCC approval for SW, MFT, and LPC.

Educators: Application has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for three Act 48 Continuing Education Credits.
