Super 8 Board Culture Teleseminar

Super 8 has always been the format of choice for shooting skate and surf ever since these sports became popular.  From the days of the “Z Boys,” super 8 cameras were part of the skateboard lifestyle.

skateboarderBut why is shooting board sports on Super 8 still so popular today? Billabong, Globe, Vans, Burton Snowboards and various other boarding companies continue to produce viral videos and commercials using the format to properly present their products and the coveted lifestyle that goes with it. The old-school look of Super 8 is so engrained in board culture that shooting any other way just doesn’t seem to evoke the right effects.

Continuing with our Super 8 lifestyle teleseminar series, on Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 at 4:30pm pacific, Phil Vigeant, super 8 expert and author, along with special guest, Ray of RUNMAN films, will be taking an in-depth look at Super 8 Board Culture.

Phil will be talking about why the Super 8 format is so versatile in creating different visual experiesurfernces that we associate closely with the dually relaxed and fast-paced lifestyle of boarding. We will also discuss why feature films such as Lords of Dog town, Paranoid Park and The Bruce Movie, and fashion icons such as Billabong, and Burton have banked in on this idea and inhibit creative skateboarding/surfing/snowboarding sequences in Super 8.

Our special guest is Ray of RUNMAN Films. Ray got his first movie camera when he was 14 and started making movies right away. His company, Runman was conceived in Malibu in the early 80's as a surf accessories company by Morgan Runyon and Ray Kleiman, (hence Runman). Runman is best known for the cult surf movies. Clips can be seen on his website, http://www.runmanfilms.com
