This program is designed as a supplement to the Kayam Farm Beit Midrash Shabbaton, but can be attended separately for those unable to join us for the whole weekend.

Connecting to the Heart: A Leadership Tool for Engaging the Unengaged

As a Jewish environmentalist, are you seeking to inspire environmental change in local or national Jewish communities?  Looking for ways to move people that do not always share the same views as you?   We can use the stories of our lives to inspire, teach, and motivate others.  Jewcology, the new web portal for the global Jewish environmental community, is pleased to offer a special new in-person leadership training opportunity which will empower us to engage those who are not already involved in environmental action, and in so doing, raise the level of environmental engagement across the Jewish community.

In this full-day session, we will learn to share the experiences and values that have led us to devote our lives to Jewish-environmental education and action, and to connect to others through these values.  We will be trained to express our environmental passions in a way that fosters shared commitment and meaningful, collective action.

This is a new kind of leadership training that has never before been done in the Jewish environmental movement.  The program will be led by experts in the “public narrative” methodology which was behind the successful grassroots movement developed in Obama campaign, and has been tailored specifically for the needs of the Jewish environmental movement.  It will be delivered for a multi-denominational Jewish-environmental audience.

Where and When

Join us on March 13-14 at the Kayam Farm, as a “bonus day” from the popular Kayam Beit Midrash.  You may attend as an “add-on” to the Beit Midrash, join us on Sunday night for a special evening program and lodging at Pearlstone, or begin with us for breakfast at 8 am on Monday morning.

Attention Professionals! - We recognize that Monday is a work day for many.  We want to let you know that this leadership training can be used to help improve your professional skills if you work in the fields of education, outreach, sales, public communications, management, or team building.  We mention this in case you'd like to request a "training day" from your employer.  The facilitators have confirmed that this training can be used to improve your professional skills.

Cost options:

Full Program - $100 (Sunday evening - Monday afternoon)

Includes meals, program fees and a shared room (one of Pearlstone's double-occupancy lodge rooms.) You'll have the opportunity to request a roommate during registration; guests of registrants will automatically be roomed together.

Commuter Rate - $42 (starting Monday 8 am - includes meals and program fees)
