Meet the Media - East Meets West Edition

Back by popular demand!   Come learn from four of SE Michigan’s most respected journalists about the changing landscape of today’s news and how public relations practitioners can remain relevant and on their game.  Our program will feature a 45-min. panel discussion followed by a brief media networking period with our panelists.

As a member bonus, PRSA members can sign up when they RSVP for a one-on-one slot with any of our panelists on a first-come, first-served basis. (Future members can still join PRSA to take advantage of this opportunity!)

OUR PANELISTS:

Michael Lee is the managing editor of Crain’s Detroit Business, a position he's
  held since 2015.

While previously at Crain’s, Lee was deputy managing editor and general manager
of crainsdetroit.com. Lee left Crain’s in 2007 to join The Associated Press, where he
led several national teams covering retail, health care and breaking news. He was
based in New York City originally and later returned to Detroit, leading a national
team of reporters and editors from the AP office.

Kelley Root is an assistant managing editor for The Detroit News, overseeing metro
and business coverage. An MSU School of Journalism graduate, she started her
career at The Grand Rapids Press in 1989 and spent 15 years there in various
reporting and editing roles before joining The News in 2004.

Founded in 1873 as The Evening News, Detroit News now covers metro Detroit and
beyond on multiple platforms, including print, Web and mobile app.

Lindsey Smith is Michigan Radio’s investigative reporter. She previously served as
the station’s West Michigan reporter. Her 2015 documentary about the Flint water
crisis, Not Safe to Drink, was award winning.

Michigan Radio is the public radio station licensed to the Regents of the University
of Michigan. In addition to carrying a full range of programming from NPR, American
Public Media and the BBC, the station also produces local features and programs.

Hannah Saunders is an Emmy-winning general assignment reporter for
FOX 2 Detroit. Previously, she was an investigative reporter and weekend morning
anchor at WZZM 13. She gained national attention for her reports on the secret lives
of panhandlers, earning her a Regional Edward R. Murrow award in 2013.

FOX 2 Detroit has been on the air since 1948. It produces several local newscasts
and broadcasts various other syndicated programming.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the unique nature of this program, we will start earlier and end later than usual. Buffet lunch will be served when doors open at 11:00 a.m. The program will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will close with a brief networking period with the media from 12:15 – 12:25 p.m. Media one-on-ones (members only) will run 12:35 – 1:30 p.m.
