Zurich Cementless Total Hip Replacement

Before embarking on the canine THR journey, one must consider the financial, logistical, practical, and technical requirements of offering this procedure in your clinic. 

KYON THR Training is appropriate for veterinary surgeons with well-rounded orthopedic experience, knowledgeable in fracture plating, corrective osteotomies and/or other Total Hip Replacement techniques. Surgeons should capable of both executing the primary surgery and managing all potential complications, short and long term. 

Your OR, hospital, and surgical team should be suitable for joint replacement surgery. Proper equipment, facility design, and diligence on the part of your staff are all essential. 

Generally, canine THR is most successful when the surgeon or clinic assembles a “THR Team” and makes a serious commitment to cadaver training. It is imperative that the THR Team has a consistent case load (~10-12 per year minimum), and regular follow-up examinations should be performed for all treated patients.

We are proud to be a global solution and excited to be bringing advanced veterinary orthopedics to many countries that do not currently have internationally recognized credentialing. For this reason, attendance is not restricted to diplomate specialists. 

Canine THR is at the vanguard of animal welfare, unforgiving and a lifelong commitment. Some surgeons/teams will have more preparation to do than others. For many the journey will not be reasonable. We are happy to discuss your specific circumstances and chart a path. 

This Course:
Zürich Cementless THR - Introduction and Basic Training (combined course)

DAY ONE: Introduction to Canine Total Hip Replacement

This program features an in-depth review of canine hip dysplasia, pathogenesis, early signs and screening, clinical and radiographic exams, requirements for canine THR (clinic, experience and equipment), clinical development and experience, basic surgical technique with bone model exercise, guidelines for the clinic, and advisement on how to establish a successful canine THR business model in your practice.

DAYS 2 and 3: Zürich Cementless THR Basic Training

The Basic Course is mandatory for purchase of the Zürich Cementless THR system. The program reviews the essential and goes deeper, concentrating on surgical technique. This includes lectures, cadaver demonstrations, live surgery commentary and cadaver lab training. Following each lab, instructors and attendees will review and discuss the cases. 

The primary objectives are to communicate the core principles of successful THR surgery, practice in a wet lab setting, and understand where you may need to concentrate your energy in order to reach the next landmark.

Moving forward will require a major commitment from you and your team. It is not uncommon for surgeons to attend Basic training again, as a team.
