Seton Montessori Institute is proud to offer a dynamic Annual Fall Seminar designed to engage the Montessori educator and administrator. Join us as we welcome renowned Montessorians:

AMS 1993 Living Legacy Carolina Gomez Del Valle

Each day of this three-day seminar has been designed to meet the interests and needs of our Montessori community.  Attendees may choose to attend specific sessions only, or can join us for the full seminar. The seminar will be held at Seton Montessori Institute on Friday and at the Double Tree by Hilton-Chicago/Oak Brook, IL on Saturday and Sunday. A block of rooms has been reserved for our seminar participants but it requires the participant to contact the hotel directly to get the special Seton rate of $99 per night on Friday and/or Saturday nights. Please mention Seton's name when calling 630/472-6000.

Additionally, Seton will be hosting the Living Legacy Reception to honor Dr. John Chattin-McNichols and to raise funds for the AMS Teacher Education Scholarships. We look forward to welcoming you to our Annual Fall Seminar and in celebrating the contributions of Dr. Chattin-McNichols.

Join AMS Board Member and recognized expert Montessori Head of School Mary Ellen Kordas for an engaging day of dialog and discussion around these essential topics for every school leader.  Mary Ellen will share her vast wealth of experiences as the Head of Valley Montessori School in Livermore, CA for over 25 years, as the founder of Bella Mente Montessori Academy, a Charter school in Rancho Santa Fe, CA for the last several years, and as the Treasurer of the American Montessori Society’s Board of Directors.

Whose Materials? The Differences in Presentation Styles between Novice and Master Teachers

 

Dr. John Chattin-McNichols

Dr. Chattin-McNichols has observed experienced Montessori teachers using their classroom and their materials in a different way than beginning teachers. This presentation explores this idea, with some guided reflections and his ideas.  The goal is to help us recognize how master teachers are behaving differently and how to think about our own classroom practices.

Dr. John Chattin-McNichols

In this talk we will take a look at the ways in which our Montessori environments meet the needs of children.  The main focus will be on using Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, and other theorists as well. This presentations will use slides from Dr. Chattin-McNichols' visits to Montessori schools outside of the U.S.
