Special Add-ons:
Post-Conference Tour

This year we will be hosting a  special post-conference tour on the afternoon of November 6 at the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant. After the final session on Wednesday, participants will meet at the location for lunch and a tour of the facility.

The Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant (PLWTP) was built in 1963 and treats approximately 175 million gallons of wastewater per day generated in a 450 square mile area by more than 2.2 million residents.

The PLWTP facility is among a few facilities in the United States that operate under a 301H modified permit.  This allows PLWTP to utilize Chemically Enhanced Primary Treatment (CEPT).  CEPT utilizes iron salts for coagulation and anionic polymer for flocculation to achieve well over the permit required 80% TSS removal on a monthly basis and 58% BOD removal on a calendar year basis.

The PLWTP continues to obtain its NPDES EPA permit with the significant support from the scientific community coming together and agreeing with our 40 years of documentation showing the effluent is not harmful to the ocean environment.  The Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant earned the 2012 Platinum Peak Performance Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies in recognition of 19 years of 100% compliance with National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit requirements

Find more information about PLWTP here.

Cost: $50.00/pp  (The fee associated with these tours covers the organization of lunch before the tour)
