March 26-29, 2012

NAMM invites all NAMM Members to participate in the 2012 Advocacy Fly-In for Music Education March 26- 28, 2012.   The Advocacy Fly-In 2012 continues NAMM’s core advocacy efforts about the importance of music education for every child and promotes legislation that advances access to music education for all children.

All Fly-In delegates will be asked to contact Members of Congress in the weeks before March 26 to schedule meetings with Members of Congress (MOCs) or their staff.

The schedule for the 2012 NAMM Advocacy Fly-In for Music Education:

  • March 26, 2012: Travel to Washington D.C.; opening dinner with special DC guests
  • March 27, 2012:  Issue updates and advocacy training
    • Presentations by representatives from the Council of Chief State School Officers, National Governors Association, National Council of State Legislatures, National Association of State Boards of Education
    • A meeting with US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has been requested.
  • March 28, 2012: Congressional visits and Congressional reception (evening departure optional)
  • March 29, 2012: Departure or optional training on protecting intellectual property presented by the US Patent and Trade Office is being offered (see info below; separate registration required and will be sent to you)*

As an Advocacy Fly-In delegate, NAMM provides up to three (3) nights hotel accommodations and meals, starting with dinner on March 26 through breakfast on March 29.   Fly-In participants are responsible for round-trip travel to Washington and ground transportation to and from the hotel. Due to a considerable increase in hotel and meal costs in Washington, a $400 registration fee is requested.  Should you not need a hotel room or a family member/guest will be traveling with you, $200 per person is requested to help cover the cost of shared meals. Please see note below concerning family members/guests. The Advocacy Fly-In hotel is Hotel Monaco http://www.kimptonhotels.com/hotels/factsheets/hotel-monaco-washington-dc/

 A note about family members/guests:

  • The Fly-In is a music industry business event.  Family members or guests may share a hotel room with you, if desired. We request your individual participation in the issue briefing on Tuesday and Congressional visits on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Family members or guests may join you for breakfast each day and the Capitol Hill Reception Wednesday evening and dinners on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

A complete itinerary including hotel confirmation will be sent the week of March 15th.  Please provide your nine (9) digit zip code(s) for home and/or business to determine Congressional contacts.
