The Watkins Family Hour

Featuring Michael Nesmith

Live in Marfa, TX

Sean and Sara Watkins welcome their special guest Michael Nesmith for a one time only show at the Crowley Theater. The Gihon Program for the Performing Arts, together with Marfa Live Arts will be bringing this special free concert to the Crowley Theater on Friday October 21st at 7:30pm.  Sara and Sean Watkins, formerly of Nickel Creek, first invited Nesmith to appear with them at the Largo in Los Angeles in September. The result was so well received that Nesmith and Watkins decided to play Marfa. “Marfa’s status in the art community is legendary,” said Nesmith. “I’ve been a fan and a friend of Ed Ruscha for many years. He’s been encouraging me to visit Marfa for a long time. When I finally did visit, I was enthralled. After I played the show with Sean and Sara I suggested we play a show in Marfa and they jumped at the chance. The meteor shower forecast for the night of Oct. 21st is an added bonus.”  When asked about Marfa, Sara Watkins offered, “I’ve heard from so many musician friends raving about Marfa, the art community there and it’s natural beauty and have been waiting for the chance to get out there for a couple of years.”

The Watkins Family Hour consists of Sean Watkins on guitar and vocals, Sara Watkins on fiddle and vocals, Don Heffington on drums, Sebastian Steinberg on bass, Greg Leisz on pedal steel, and Benmont Tench on piano.  Admission is free.
