Juggling Personal Priorities and Professional Demands

Tools and Strategies for Finding a Healthy Balance

September 23rd, 9:00am- 1:00pm

Please join us for a half-day workshop focused on the developing strategies for maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Working in human services can be both rewarding and challenging. It’s not uncommon for people working in our field to feel the need to always be available or finish ‘just one last email,’ even when the work day has come to a close. As a result, it’s easy for us to feel over worked or that we don’t have enough time to prioritize what’s important to us outside of our jobs. The good news is, it doesn’t need to be this way! While your trainers, Shaun Wood and Dan Rutten from Wise, admittedly don’t have it all figured out, they are excited to present and explore strategies and tools that can help us create a better balance personally and professionally.

Morning coffee and lunch will be provided.

Shaun Wood, M.Ed, BCBA

Shaun is a community developer who is passionate about social justice and equality of opportunity, and has worked to support people with disabilities since 2002. Since then, he continues to work in schools, people’s homes, and job sites helping to build inclusive communities. Shaun is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a certified Employment Specialist. He served in the United States Peace Corps in Bulgaria and surrounding countries, and has both his M.Ed. in Applied Behavior Analysis and his B.A. in Political Science and Human Rights from the University of Washington. Shaun is particularly interested in using ABA, emerging technology, reflective processes, and mentorship to drive employment outcomes. When he isn’t working, he enjoys tending to his garden, drinking black coffee, staring at his topical fish tank, and jogging circles around his small hometown of Burien, Washington.

Dan Rutten

Dan has been working in the field of Supported Employment since 2004 and has worked as a Job Coach, an Employment Consultant, and a Program Manager. Dan is a Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) through APSE and received his BA is Social Sciences from the University of Washington. Being a strong believer in the idea that knowledge exists to share, not be kept, Dan enjoys collaborating with people whenever possible. Dan’s professional interests include job coaching and fading supports, environmental adaptations, Person Centered Planning, utilizing goal setting to drive services, as well as program management strategies.
