B127 - Probability & Statistics

Overview

The class will teach the technical staff how to select the best control chart for any given problem and how most effectively deploy it.  This class contains information that is not available from any other single source.
  • Population versus Samples
  • Descriptors of central tendency and dispersion of a distribution
  • Conditional Probability
  • Combinations
  • Permutations
  • Hypothesis Testing
  • Normal Distribution
  • Comparisons of the mean (z-test, and t-test)
  • Comparison of Variance (Chi-Square-test, and F-test)
  • Exponential distribution
  • Poisson distribution
  • Binomial, Geometric, and Hypergeometric distributions

Benefits

The class will teach the technical staff the fundamental concepts of statistics and
statistical analysis. This includes the following learning objective:

  • Understand the basics of statistics: data collection, data types and description, probability, random variables, expectation and variance operators
  • Understand statistical analysis: data distributions, normal probability plots, the central limit theorem, z-test and t-tests
  • Apply the fundamentals of statistics: sampling, confidence intervals, tests of hypothesis, comparing two populations, design of experiments, and regression analysis
