American Society of Quality Dinner Forum

Speaker Topic: Autonomous Cars: QMS Challenges

Abstract:
The electronic contents of modern cars is increasing constantly to a level where the cars in next few years will have electric and electronic content approaching 50% of its value according to some OEMs, versus the mechanical content that dominates today. As cars add driver assist features, telematics, over-the-air-updates and autonomous capability, GB’s of data per day will be generated by dozens of sensors requiring high capacity storage – both on-board and in the cloud.

With this in mind, the standard body for ‘Automotive Compliance’ has renewed the standard.  The new International Automotive Task Force (IATF) standard 16949 replaces old TS16949 standard and several of the sections now are updated and more focus is placed on avoidance of mistakes and building in quality through design and management commitment.  QMS challenges to get the corporation focused on being a strong supplier to the automotive industry will be discussed during this presentation.
