American Society of Quality Dinner Forum

Speaker Topic:  California Privacy Act and GDPR – An Overview

The GDPR or General Data Privacy Regulations were implemented on May 25th of 2018. The law is organized in to 99 provisions and support by 173 recitals or explanations of the provisions. We will be discussing the content of the provisions and how they apply to business in America with and without employees in the EU.

In June of this year California passed a new Consumer Privacy Act that will go into effect on January 1, 2020. The new California law and the GDPR share some general features and there is some overlap but the similarities end there. The law is still not complete as some portions require the attorney general to write specific regulations for several provisions of the law.

The topics to be covered include:

  • Why the new law?
  • What does it cover?
  • What is GDPR and its affects on a business?
  • How does Consumer Privacy Act differ from the GDPR?
This will be a very interactive presentation with adequate time for questions and opportunities for participants to share their experiences and challenges.
