About the Topic
The first part of the presentation "Cybersecurity Risk & Liability" will focus on today's cyber landscape. You will learn the type of attacks and threat vectors used to steal sensitive data. The presentation will cover the top reasons how compromises occur. We will also discuss why it is important to understand your weaknesses and apply a layered security defense and effective security controls.

The second part of the presentation will cover business owners' legal liability to protect Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and is created once any information is collected and stored. This presentation will help to understand the 1st party financial impact and the 3rd party legal responsibilities created by a breach; and how to financially protect their business with Cyber Liability Insurance. The presentation will cover:

  • Tools to protect a business financially from the consequences of a data breach
  • The importance of protecting data in today's marketplace
  • Privacy Law legislation and cyber breach trends
  • Current cyber claims discussion
  • The basics of how Cyber Liability Insurance can protect a business once a breach occurs

About the Speakers
Gene Pugnetti, CISSP, CISM
Gene Pugnetti is President of Tieton Group LLC, a cybersecurity consulting firm. He has over 30 years of experience in IT security consulting and delivery. Gene was an executive consultant and principal manager in IBM's Global Security Services consulting practice from 1997 to 2013. His security consulting has included the areas of risk management, regulatory compliance, secure network architecture and design, and the assessment of security controls against best practices and standards. Mr. Pugnetti's regulatory compliance experience includes: HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI, CJIS, FFEIC and assessments against numerous security baseline standards, such as, ISO17799/ISO 27002, NIST SP series Guidelines and Standards, CobiT, NERC-CIP Cyber Security Reliability Standards and the IBM Security Framework, which he helped author. He is also trained in the implementation and auditing of the Consortium for CyberSecurity Action.  Gene has consulted and managed security projects for Kaiser Permanente, AT&T, Verizon, Delta Airlines, Wal-Mart, Nike, Port of Seattle, King County WA, Yakima County WA, Cisco Systems, Bank of America, VISA, Boeing and many others. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). Tieton Group is based in Yakima, WA.

Keilyn, an Account Executive at Travelers Insurance, has worked in the insurance industry for five years as an underwriter for Management Liability products including: Director's & Officer's Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability, CyberRisk Liability, Crime/Employee Theft, and Kidnap & Ransom coverage. She is certified for teaching continuing education in six states and has been a leader in underwriting and sales of CyberRisk Liability in the Northwest Region.
