Tell Me What Happened: Skills for Professionals on How to Talk to Kids - Henrico

Join Kelly Bober and Briana Valentino in this highly requested full day training for the many professionals & volunteers who are in the position of talking to children in the context of a crime.

Goals include understanding child developmental levels; talking to a child in the context of crime vs. conducting a forensic interview; learning each team member's role in the process of child abuse investigations; and learning what to say and what not to say to a child.  

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • understand how trauma impacts children that disclose abuse
  • understand question typology
  • understand how your questions impact a child's memory
  • understand a child's role in the criminal justic process 

Target Audience:  GALS, victim witness, doctors and nurses, teachers, guidance counselors, school resourse officers, domestic violence advocates, crisis workers, CASA volunteers, foster care workers, counselors and therapists.

KELLY BOBER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CHILDSAFE CENTER, an accredited Children’s Advocacy Center in Winchester, VA.  Kelly also continues to conduct forensic interviews, supervise other interviews and facilitate peer review.  Prior to her current position, Ms. Bober was a full time forensic interviewer at The Child Abuse Program in Norfolk, VA where she conducted over 2000 forensic interviews.  Ms. Bober is recognized as a subject matter expert and has been appointed to the National Association of Certified Child Forensic Interviewers Competency Board.  Ms. Bober is recognized as an expert on child abuse and interviewing techniques of children and frequently acts as a consultant and expert witness. 

 

BRIANA VALENTINO, FORENSIC INTERVIEWER, GRSCAN CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER graduated with a degree in Human Development from Virginia Tech in 2007.  After working the domestic violence field for five years, she joined GRSCAN Child Advocacy Center as their Case Manager/Forensic Interviewer.  She also continued to work part time with the Greater Richmond Regional Hotline for Domestic and Sexual Violence.  In 2016, Briana worked briefly with the Loudoun Child Advocacy before transitioning back to GRSCAN as their Forensic Interviewer.   Briana has conducted over 1200 interviews, and joined the ChildFirst faculty in 2015.
