Parent Leadership Initiative Long Island (PLI) is an innovative program designed to prepare parents and caregivers from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds to take on leadership roles in their communities. Learn this model to help determine how your parish might structure a caring ministry for parents and caregivers that helps them in various ways.   

Immigration Issues for Families

This session will review the many difficulties impacting our Godly neighbors in the immigrant community. An overview of the ways the faith community can be involved in caring for and supporting these members of our community will be offered.
 
1:00 p.m. Workshop Offerings 

Raising up our Young Men 
Presenters:  Jonathan Quash, MS, Director, York College Male Initiative Program                       Ryan Frith and David Speal, CUNY Fatherhood Academy at LaGuardia                     Community College

This dynamic session will explore the features of the national Fatherhood Initiative and other Male Achievement programs, which aim to strengthen and build up young men and fathers. Consider how you can support the needs of the underrepresented populations in higher education through academic enrichment and mentoring. 

Considerations for our LGBTQ Youth and Families 
Presenter:  Margaret Fiori, LMSW, Outreach Coordinator, The Ali Forney Center

This session will provide the education and understanding that is vital for welcoming and serving the LGBTQ population. Consider how you can create a loving space for people based on our shared hopes and dreams and not our differences.
