Building Community: Managing, Strengthening & Growing Volunteers
A church community can serve as a powerful force for change through the good works and creative efforts of the men, women and young people who are engaged in the life of the congregation. Ministries that help seniors age in place, or enrich the after school hours of young children, or make healthy food more widely available, require the dedication of many people, both clergy and lay leaders and friends and neighbors. How those people are nurtured, supported and cared for is as important as the impact of the ministry itself.
The 2018 Episcopal Ministries Summit will explore strategies and approaches that can be used to help build more flourishing volunteer communities. Workshops that help build skills in leadership development, volunteer management and retention and community organizing will be offered.
Keynote
Chad Brinkman, Program Officer with Episcopal Relief & Development, will outline the principles of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD.) Chad will go deeper into the underpinnings of the ABCD methodology and highlight how it can be used to discern gifts and strengths, reveal opportunities and help illuminate the path toward building up your community and help others become skilled “connectors.”
