10:00-  Bern Sweeney Ph.D. - President, Director,  and Senior Research Scientist,  Stroud Water Research Center, Avondale, PA; Understanding the ecology of streams, rivers and their watersheds; the role of forest riparian buffers  for improved water quality.  http://www.stroudcenter.org/

 10:45- Dr. Don Leopold - Distinguished Teaching Professor and Department Chair of Environmental and Forest Biology, SUNY ESF; Native tree and shrub selections determined by plant, soil and site characteristics.

11:30-  Art Gover- Research Support Associate, Wildland Weeds Project, Penn State University,  Plant Science Department.; Weed control for tree and shrub establishment and maintenance; and invasive plant  species considerations.

 12:00-  Mike Hanawalt (NRCS, District Conservationist, PA.) and Jennifer Johns (Chesapeake Bay Foundation,  Stream Buffer Specialist);  Methods for establishing trees and shrubs.  The PA Conservation Reserve Enhancement  Program (CREP) experience, lessons learned ordering, stock sizes, planting and  protection.            

12:30   Lunch

 1:30- David Wise- Watershed Restoration Manger, Stroud Water Research Center; Post-planting care and maintenance. Explanation of their “Low cost methods for forested buffer plantings” grant. 

Field Tour:  2:00- 3:30 Container size study, Tree planting protection study, Willow time of staking study. Most morning speakers will be available during tour for questions and interactive discussion 

Paul Salon-USDA-NRCS Plant Materials Specialist; Tree and Shrub planting projects at the Big Flats PMC.

Karen Clifford (Delaware Co. SWCD Special Programs Tech.) and Brandon Dennis- (NRCS Resource Conservationist NYC Watershed); NY CREP and lessons learned in the watershed riparian forest buffer program.

Steve Doudt  - Meadowview Nursery Naples, NY;  perspective on bare root culture and care of planting stock.

Jim Engel – White Oak Nursery, Geneva, NY;  perspective on container culture; and seed collection and handling for nursery propagation and direct seeding.
