One pillar of IndyCREW’s current strategic plan is the intentional diversifying of its membership, programming, and association as a whole.  To do this IndyCREW created a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force that has been charged with developing a strategy that (i) actively recruits and seeks to retain women who are historically underrepresented in the real estate industry, and (ii) promotes leadership and programing that are inclusive of all cultures, experiences and identities.  As the commencement of IndyCREW’s work in this area it is partnering with the Racial Equity Institute (REI) to provide IndyCREW members with a presentation entitled “ The Groundwater Approach: Building a Practical Understanding of Structural Racism”.

We hope that you will choose to join fellow IndyCREW members for a lively and participatory presentation by REI presenters who will use stories and data to present a perspective that racism is fundamentally structural in nature. By examining characteristics of modern-day racial inequity, the presentation introduces participants to an analysis that most find immediately helpful and relevant.

The Groundwater metaphor is designed to help leaders at all levels internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society, and that is what causes racial inequity. Embracing these truths helps leaders confront the reality that all of our systems, institutions, and outcomes emanate from the racial hierarchy, on which the United States was built. In other words, we have a “groundwater” problem, and we need “groundwater” solutions. Starting from there, we begin to unlock transformative change.
