Human Trafficking

Clinicians will gain an understanding of the underpinnings of human trafficking to help them work effectively with clients that may have the potential to be involved, may be currently involved or have previously been involved in human trafficking. The prevalence of human trafficking, the psychological, behavioral and physical indicators, and mental health risks associated with human trafficking will be covered in detail. Therapeutic interventions to address safety, build rapport, manage difficult emotions and process grief will be presented utilizing a trauma-informed framework.

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Underline psychosocial factors that contribute to an individual’s vulnerability to human trafficking
  • Describe psychological, behavioral and physical indicators of human trafficking
  • Identify mental health risks associated with human trafficking
  • Develop appropriate interventions for the client & the family
  • Utilize a trauma-informed approach in working with individuals with complex trauma

Featured Presenters:

Chelsea Haverly, LCSW-C, TF-CBT, is the co-founder of Anchored Hope Therapy, LLC in Annapolis, MD. She is a Trauma Focused-CBT certified therapist specializing in treating adult and child survivors of sexual abuse, assault and sex trafficking. She also has specialized training in treating and managing high risk behaviors such as substance use and non-suicidal self-injury utilizing DBT-informed therapy. Chelsea is a member of the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force, Victims Service Subcommittee, and a certified trainer through this committee.

Amanda K. Rodriguez, Esq., is the co-chair of the Legislative Subcommittee for the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force. She has extensive experience in the field of domestic violence and human trafficking policy. She is the former manager of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Policy for the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention where she coordinated the statewide implementation of policy and protocol related to human trafficking in Maryland and is a former state and federal prosecutor. She has received numerous awards for her work on human trafficking in the state including the Breakthrough Award from the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force, a special citation from Baltimore County, two citations from the State of Maryland, and special recognition from the Baltimore U.S. Attorney’s Office for her successful prosecution of traffickers involved in child exploitation and her commitment to human trafficking survivors.

Professional Continuing Education Credits (4-Hours/CEUs):

An important message about CEUs:  Brook Lane seminars are approved for continuing education credits as an entire event.  P ARTIAL CREDIT WILL NOT BE AWARDED.  To assure that you receive continuing education credit, you must be on time and complete the entire seminar.

Counselors/Therapists:  Brook Lane Health Services has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP TM) # 5452. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Brook Lane solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.  This program will provide 4 clock hours; partial credit will not be awarded.

Social Workers:  Brook Lane Health Services is an approved sponsor of the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for continuing education credits for licensed social workers in Maryland.  This program will provide 4.0 credit hours of Category I continuing education; partial credit will not be awarded.   

Psychologists:  The Maryland State Board of Examiners for Psychologists will accept continuing education hours provided by Brook Lane, an approved CE sponsor by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.

Other Healthcare Professionals and Attendees:  A certificate of completion noting the number of educational/contact hours will be provided for other disciplines to allow attendees to apply for CE credit as an individual.

 Seminar Fee:  $79.00

(Fee includes continental breakfast and CEUs)

CANCELLATION POLICY:  A $10 processing fee will apply for all cancellations. To receive a refund, cancellations must be made in writing and received no later than one week prior to the seminar. No refunds/credits will be made after the one-week date or for no shows on the day of the program.

Attention Brook Lane Staff Members:  If you registered online, it is your responsibility to complete the process by submitting a yellow TRAINING REQUEST FORM to your supervisor for approval and signature.
