Join Us For a Day at the Zoo!

If we could talk to animals.... A day of exploration of why animals matter to people of faith.

COST:

$16* For Zoo Admission - this amount will be collected at the gate as you enter the zoo. (This will NOT be collected by Heartland Presbytery)

*If you are a Jackson County or Clay County resident you will get admission to the zoo for 1/2 price - $8. Bring a driver's license or utility bill.

*Please do not let the admission cost scare you off. If you need assistance, we will be asking those that are "Friends of The Zoo" - members if they are willing to share entrance passes with you. These questions will be asked in the online registration page.

EVENT DETAILS:

9:00am - Aquarium Room - we will gather and explore animal communication and ask the question: "Why do animals matter to people of faith?". We are advocates for environmental justice, and somewhere along the way we lost track that animals are part of the very creation we were entrusted to care for in our lives. (Zoo hours are 9:30am - 4:00pm. Please let them know you are with Heartland Presbytery for early entry.)
Morning Walk With Rev. Barbara Sherer - There will be opportunities for "hands on" interactions with some remarkable animals with these new skills. We will have the wonderful Rev. Sherer, Docent of the KC Zoo, to walk with us and share with us about the animals and ways that you can participate in conversation with the zoo.
Lunch Discussion - we will share a lunch together to discuss our experiences. Bring your own lunch, or there are concessions available within the zoo.
Afternoon Exploration - our afternoon will be filled with more exploration with Rev. Sherer, OR exploring on your own, the various areas of the zoo.
SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY: PENGUIN ENCOUNTER ($40) - There is an opportunity to experience some behind the scenes with the penguins (no touching, but up close and personal). There is an extra fee, and this is limited to 15 registrants. It will be on a first come basis. Only paid registrants may do this special encounter. Heartland Presbytery will collect this fee at the time of registration.
Accessibility - the zoo has many possibilities for accessibility throughout the grounds and have items for rent to help you get around and experience it all. From stroller ($9), wheelchair ($10), train & tram ($3 round trip), to gondola ($5).
