Call for Proposals

The Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation’s 2013 National Peer Helpers Conference will be held Wednesday, February 27 – Friday, March 1 at the Marriott Grand Hotel Resort, Golf Club and Spa on Mobile Bay in Point Clear, AL. The conference provides a national forum for the adult leaders of youth peer-to-peer support programs, including sharing of information, training, best practices, resources and networking. The National Association of Peer Program Professionals will offer training for individuals to become Certified Peer Program Educators. Continued training for current CPPEs will be provided.  National Board of Certified Counselors credit is pending.

Sessions are an hour and a half in length and will allow for the presentation of relevant content, skills training, interaction and group discussion. All presentations should adhere to National Association of Peer Program Professionals Programmatic Standards.  Please visit www.peerprogramprofessionals.org/publications to review the standards.

Participant attendees are educators, school administrators, counselors, mental health practitioners, social workers, prevention specialists, non-profit agencies, and other professionals. The conference focus is “Making a Difference – Effective Peer-to-Peer Support Programs” and areas of interest for presentations include:

  • creating, developing, training, maintaining, budgeting and evaluating peer programs at the elementary, middle high school and community levels
  • creative program ideas to get and keep young people engaged in the peer program model and process
  • utilizing peer programs to combat bullying/cyber-bullying, school dropout, substance abuse, isolation, suicide, and other issues
  • utilizing peer programs to provide intervention, tutoring, cross-age or same-age mentoring, mediation, service learning, diversity awareness, character education, social responsibility, health/hunger initiatives, communications, highway traffic safety and other support services
  • case studies of successful, sustainable peer programs
