Back to Business Expo - 6/6/18 

An all-day business symposium and product fair covering the Northern Virginia, Maryland and District of Columbia area. Focus of the day is the key issues entrepreneurs face in developing their business and selling their products and services. The day will feature a series of business information workshops and panels presented by Subject Matter Experts. The day will close with a trade show/product fair for attendees to present their products and services. 

  • Business Planning -  Hal Shelton, SCORE mentor, former long-serving SCORE National Board member, angel investor and Amazon bestselling author will lead a fast-paced interactive discussion on the need to have and tips to create/update a successful business plan. 
  • Crowdfunding – Ed Shanahan. Learn how you can use Crowdfunding to raise capital for your business.  Participants will be guided through a step-by-step approach to understanding, developing and implementing a Crowdfunding campaign. 
  • Funding Your Business – Krista Tuomi is a professor in the International Economic Policy program at the School of International Service, American University.  Currently she “imparts wisdom” to students on topics such as economic policy, crowdfunding, entrepreneurship, investment, and financial policy.  She also publishes widely in the field of innovation financing, with recent papers and blogs focusing on the costs of software development, and best practice in entrepreneur eco-systems.
  • Marketing Your Business in Today’s Multi-channel World – Lissa Regets is Head of Marketing and Community for Quirky, where she focuses on championing the Quirky brand, leading the Quirky invention community and inspiring the next generation of inventors.  Quirky is the largest collaborative invention community in the world. Quirky makes invention accessible to all who want to give it a try and launch products invented by real people like you. We help individual inventors and companies alike. For brands, we are transforming the way they approach product discovery and open innovation. 
  • Payroll and Hiring – Paychex. A team of Human Resource experts will cover key elements of the hiring and retention process as well as the legal requirements of Personnel Management.
