Cybersecurity in the maritime industry and supply chain is a hot topic these days, and MAPONY/NJ is bringing the conversation to you! Please join us as our panel of maritime and supply chain cybersecurity experts discuss what threats our industry faces and what we can do to take preventative action against these threats.


 Keynote Speaker

Captain Jason Tama Commander, Sector NY Captain of the Port

Captain Jason Tama assumed command in June 2018, and directs all Coast Guard missions in the Port of New York & New Jersey and the Port of Albany. Tama serves as the Captain of the Port, Officer in Charge of Marine Inspection, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Search & Rescue Mission Coordinator, and Federal On Scene Coordinator for the over 6,000 square miles that constitute Sector New York’s area of responsibility.

Captain Tama has over 20 years of experience in a broad array of operational and staff assignments. He is a Marine Safety, Security, and Environmental Protection specialist whose previous operational assignments include Operations Officeraboard the Coast Guard Cutter MARIPOSA, Marine Inspector at Marine Safety Office Puget Sound, Chief of Waterways Management at Sector Puget Sound, and Chief of Prevention at Sector San Francisco.

Staff assignments include Naval Architect and Marine Salvage Engineer at the Marine Safety Center and Budget Coordinator in the Office of Budget and Programs. He most recently served as the Coast Guard’s Deputy Budget Director, where he was responsible for formulating and defending the Service’s $11 billion annual budget request to the Department of Homeland Security, White House Office of Management and Budget, and Congress.

Captain Tama holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Engineering in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Business Administration from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is an MIT Sloan Fellow, Brookings Institution Federal Executive Fellow, Marshall Memorial Fellow, and White House Fellows National Finalist.

Cynthia A. Hudson is CEO and founder of HudsonAnalytix, Inc., a global maritime risk consultancy serving the maritime transportation sector, headquartered in the Philadelphia, US and internationally from London to Piraeus.

In 1986, Ms. Hudson founded what became HudsonAnalytix to provide emergency response, maritime project management and maritime consulting services to maritime transportation interests; oil and energy, vessel owners/operators and insurers for more than 100 oil and hazardous material response incidents.

Hudson led the firm into maritime security for ports and vessels providing port vulnerability security assessment work at hundreds of ports and facilities worldwide and in 2016 expanded the HudsonAnalytix cyber security initiative to design and deliver cybersecurity and cyber risk management solutions to maritime clients and provide cybersecurity expertise to governmental agencies.

Well-known and highly regarded throughout the maritime transportation industry for her work and contributions in her field, Ms. Hudson was honored by the Organization of American States (OAS) Inter-American Committee on Ports with the 2016 Maritime Award of the Americas: Outstanding Women in the Maritime and Port. Ms. Hudson serves on a number of Industry Boards, such as, the American Caribbean Maritime Association and the Maritime Academy High School in Philadelphia. She is President ofWISTA Delaware River & Bay Chapter and a Director of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA).

 

Cyber NYC - NYC Economic Development Corporation


Brigit is the Program Manager for Cyber NYC – a $100 M public-private partnership to make NYC a global hub for the cybersecurity industry. Drawn to the messy space where technology and social service delivery meet, Brigit is committed to transforming the inefficiencies of social impact work. With a background in cultural studies, she worked on a behavioral economics, road safety intervention in Rwanda before moving to New York. In NYC, Brigit’s work has spanned a blockchain for social good initiative, a fintech startup, a digital health lab, and she even co-founded a non-profit (Second Day) to connect young people to careers in the social impact space.  She is fascinated by the frustrated energy of technologists and the altruistic commitment of public servants, and she is driven by the power of technology to expand equity and access within economic development. At NYCEDC, she leads partner relations, operations, and project management for the bootcamp, accelerator, and tech transfer arms of Cyber NYC.
