Two Day Experiential Site Visit

February 22 - 23, 2017

This is a unique two day Experiential Site Visit.  We encourage you and your team to attend both days to experience the full benefits.

Agenda:

Day 1  9:00 am - 4:00pm

Location: Serna Center

5735 47th Ave, Sacramento, CA 95824

Outcomes:

  • Gain a clear sense of why strong site and district leadership, and intentional alignment of resources are necessary to ensure effective pathway implementation and sustainability;
  • Understand how the four core elements of Linked Learning are implemented in four distinct schools
  • Learn how pathway teams function as an effective community of practice to support college and career readiness

Site Visit Options:

  • Health Professions High School - HPHS was the first pathway in the district and one of the five certified Linked Learning pathways. During the visit, staff will focus their sharing best practices related to integrated curriculum, rigorous college and career preparation program of study, action civics in the classroom and their health community of practice.  Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with the students, staff and industry partners associated with HPHS.
  • Hiram Johnson High School   - Johnson Corporate Business Academy (JCBA) is one of the five certified Linked Learning pathways, but the only one that is at a comprehensive high school.  Participants will learn about JCBA’s pathway staff community of practice, on-site work-based learning opportunities for students, district aligned-pathway outcomes and defense of learning. Participants will also have the opportunity to speak with site administrators regarding cohort scheduling students in multiple academies.
  • Rosemont High School - Rosemont High School has two pathways and one criterion-based program. A common challenge with implementing Linked Learning at a comprehensive high school is master scheduling to ensure students in pathways are cohort scheduled into one CTE and at least two academic core classes. During a visit to Rosemont, participants will learn about the Engineering Construction Design pathway and Green Academy, which is a culinary pathway.  In addition, participants will have the opportunity to speak with site administrators responsible for master scheduling to hear about their lessons learned and strategies to improve cohort scheduling of students in academies.
  • School of Engineering and Science - SES, a certified Linked Learning pathway, is the only small school serving students in grades 7-12.  Participants will learn about SES’s distributed leadership structure, student portfolio-defense of learning system and its unique middle to high school program of study. Participants will visit classes and see how engineering and sciences are woven throughout the curriculum.
