The River Mile Mission Statement
To foster investigation and understanding of the Columbia River Watershed and to promote watershed health
The River Mile is…
…a network of educators, students, resource managers, scientists and environmental educators in the Columbia River Watershed sharing what they know and learn about the Columbia River Watershed and sharing best practices, lessons learned, examples of participation, links to resources and collecting and sharing real world scientific data. It is a participant driven approach to learning, researching and exploring the watershed health of the Columbia River.
Students and teachers are engaged in the practices of scientists and resource managers as they become intimately familiar with their outdoor classroom by spending time in the field inventorying, monitoring, analyzing, investigating and researching site discoveries.

"Designed by the California Academy of Sciences, Science Action Club is a nationwide STEM program for middle school youth in out-of-school time. Through games, projects, and hands-on activities, youth in SAC use citizen science to explore nature, connect with scientists, and design strategies to protect our planet.
SAC’s science and nature units spark curiosity, build scientific skills, and help youth develop STEM identities. All three units are available in English and bilingual English-Spanish. Our sliding scale fee structure ensures equity and access for all program providers."
Kits are availble for purchase through this workshop. Price varies due to their sliding scale fee structure.
Note: Each organization is required to send 2 staff to the training and purchase a kit for each unit you wish to obtain and use. DO NOT LET THIS DISCOURAGE YOU FROM PARTICIPATING! The National Park Service is sponsoring 10 kits and the California Academy of Sciences works with groups to ensure access.
