Robert V. Thomann, Ph.D., D. Min. has ministered as a Permanent Deacon together with his wife, Joan, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel for more than four decades. Their ministries have included Marriage Preparation, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and Responsible Catechists for communities of the Neocatechumenal Way in the Parish. Bob is an Emeritus Professor of Environmental Engineering and Science at Manhattan College and an Emeritus Member of the National Academy of Engineering. He has taught in the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Guam and in the diaconate programs of Newark and Paterson, New Jersey. His latest book: “A Hemorrhaging Church; Evangelization and the Neocatechumenal Way” is published through Amazon. He is currently completing a book entitled: “Environmental Fear or Christian Environmental Love; The Great Environmental Choice”.

Awaiting the Humble Servant
Mt. Carmel of Ridgewood's Advent Reflection - God's humility reflected in Jesus Christ for all to see! Join us!
Advent is a time of waiting and watching for Jesus Christ who is coming to meet us. But do we really believe that Christ is coming to meet us personally?
When we look towards the horizon of Christmas, we see an image of God in total humility, in a coming of the destitute, the most lowly, the ones we so often reject. This is then a time to reflect - to let the light of this humility of God reflect back to us. Here in this reflection, we will speak of the image that is presented to us - What does this humility of Christ, of God, mean for us this Advent? In what way is this infant, in a trough meant for animals, of any relevance to us? This night of reflection will be a time of preparation for Christmas that transcends the cultural pace and rests in the beauty and loveliness of the humility of Christ. We are called as Christians to carry that humility of Christ in ourselves, all through the grace of God. Here will be a time to say “Yes” to the grace that the Lord wants to offer us this season.
