E-Books, E-Readers, and Tablet Computing - NEFLIN (6/3/14) 

The age of e-books has arrived!  E-books are growing in popularity and have begun to outsell some categories of print books.  The impact of this trend is likely to be profound for libraries.

There are many ways to experience e-books.  Two popular technologies for this are dedicated e-readers such as the Kindle, and the new wave of tablet devices such as the iPad.  Dedicated e-readers are well
established and mature, while tablet computers represent the cutting edge of mobile technology and are still finding their niche.  The sophistication and quality of both e-readers and tablet devices are rapidly increasing.

This full day workshop is intended to introduce library staff to e-book, e-reader, and tablet computing technologies.  In addition to the technology showcase, there will be lively discussion on the effect that e-books are having on libraries and what the future may hold.  Several example e-readers and tablet computers will be available for hands-on demonstration, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own to show to the group.
