Genealogy Interest Group Meeting (6/12/19)

Meeting Information

This quarter, our guest speaker is Patricia Charpentier of Writing Your Life with her presentation, Write Your Life: Get Started:

"Learn some of the many approaches to writing your life stories, how to retrieve long-forgotten memories, painlessly organize your stories, tell an anecdote in an interesting and creative way, and so much more. Sounds like a lot of work? No way! We knock the ninth-grade English teacher with the bloody red pen off our shoulders and learn to have fun with words. Join this exciting workshop and walk out with the beginnings of your life story. No previous writing experience is necessary; the class motto: The only way to do this wrong is to not do it at all!"

Patricia Charpentier, author of the multi-award-winning book Eating an Elephant: Write Your Life One Bite at a Time teaches, writes, edits, ghostwrites, and publishes personal and family history. She is a popular speaker who, since 1999, has helped hundreds of people write the most important stories of their lives. Patricia offers live workshops and ongoing courses, including programs that utilize videos, one-on-one coaching, group Q&A calls, and more to help people succeed in writing the story of a lifetime. Patricia has coauthored, edited, and published more than sixty books. She lives in Orlando with her golf-loving husband Bob and enjoys enjoys dancing for exercise, but she is grateful for the motto of the studio: There are no mistakes, only solos.

Interest Group Facilitator:  Jami Beserock

Jami Beserock has worked for the University of Florida Libraries for over 20 years. She started as a Senior Secretary and has worked in various departments such as Serials Check-In, Binding, Reference and Course Reserves. Jami currently works in Interlibrary Loan and is the Genealogy Specialist for the University of Florida libraries. Jami volunteers for Gainesville Rabbit Rescue every Saturday and has a rabbit of her own. She has family in Hungary and Slovakia and almost all of them do not speak English. So it is a good thing she speaks Hungarian and Czech and is still learning Slovak. In May of last year, Jami spent over 2 weeks in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic visiting her family.
