PreK Storytime 101: The Basics - NEFLIN HQ (10/12/22)

If you’re new to children’s work and just found out you’re supposed to design and implement storytime programming for preschoolers, this workshop is designed for you!

In library storytimes, we introduce young children and their parents and caregivers to story-sharing strategies that build the early literacy skills children need in order to learn to read while having fun with books, rhymes and songs – and FUN is the foundation of reading motivation!

This workshop is a primer in all the basic skills you will need, including but not limited to

  • The whys and wherefores of storytime
  • READ, WRITE, PLAY, SING, TALK strategies
  • How to choose, prepare and share picturebooks
  • Fingerplays and action rhymes
  • Puppetry, flannelboards, and other props
  • Creative drama; crafts; sensory activities (and more!).
This is not a make-and-take, BUT you’ll leave with at least one entire program planned and the skills to implement it and many more!
