Pongo Teen Writing

The Institute for Psychosocial Health is proud to present a special training and consultation with Richard Gold, MA, Founder and Director of the Pongo Teen Writing Project. The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, in Room 343 at the Tulane School of Social Work. Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The workshop will include a 3-hour presentation by Pongo Teen Writing Project founder and director Richard Gold and Dr. Jane Parker about the training, methods and practice specific application of Pongo Writing. Participants will receive 3 social work CEUs, pending state board approval.

Presenters
Richard Gold, MA, is the founder and director of the “PONGO Teen Writing Project”. The Project was founded as a non-profit corporation in 1995 to teach therapeutic writing to youth inside juvenile detention centers, homeless shelters, and psychiatric hospitals, etc; those youth who in most ways lead difficult lives. The Writing with At-Risk Youth makes a wonderful contribution to those who have suffered childhood trauma, abuse, and exposure to violent death. The writing gives the youth an avenue to express and better understand their feelings. Richard has trained hundreds of counselors, teachers, students and artists in Pongo writing methods over the years.

Jane Parker, Ph.D., LCSW, MPH, is the Director of the Institute for Psychosocial Health at Tulane School of Social Work. Dr. Parker teaches masters and doctorate courses for the School of Social Work and the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She is the founder of the Certificate for Disaster Mental Health and Trauma Studies at the School of Social Work. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the “Hy Weiner National Leadership Award” from the Society for Social Work Leadership in Healthcare.
