ABOUT LAUGHING MATTERS:

LAUGHING MATTERS is an awesome learning experience about performing Stand Up Comedy. The structure is where young actors learn about the fundamentals writing and performing stand up comedy. The class begins with the process of using the history of one's life to consider the funny stories they have that are current and from their past.

We have the actors work with comedy writers, show runners in comedy and a director to create 2-3 minutes of personalized material that serves as their individual piece.

Over the course of the classes, the material is refined just like on a sit-com to see what jokes work. We aim to punch it up, to maximize the humor for the piece. After the five day class is over, all the actors then have the option perform in a show where each can show off their unique and individualized material for friends, family and our invited industy guests! *THIS IS NOT MANDATORY TO PERFORM YOUR PIECE AT THE SHOW. ACTORS CAN FEEL FREE TO TAKE THE CLASS TO BUILD CONFIDENCE IN LIVE PERFORMANCES, WRITING, AND MORE. THE SHOW IS SIMPLY A BONUS OPTION IF ANYONE WANTS TO PERFORM THEIR PIECE INFRONT OF A LIVE AUDIENCE!*

 Stand Up Comedy is one of the hardest thing to do in the industry, and actors who learn it can really raise the bar of the entirety of the work in comedy and overall performance.

SCHEDULE:

After You Register, You will recieve a questionnaire sheet to fill out with as much detail as possible about YOU and your life experiences. You will then work together with our industry writer & use that as your material for your stand up routine! 

Throughout these days we will have:

• Our 2 Guest Comedy Writers
• Producer/Show Runner/Comedian: Billy Riback (Wizards of Waverly Place, Suite Life, Appearances on Showtime, HBO)
• Director/Actor/ Warm Up Guy/ Improv Guru: Ezra Weisz 

DAY ONE:  We want to get to know YOU, and how you perform. Prepare a comedy scene, monologue, or even sketch characters or an existing stand up routine if you have it for Joey Paul and our guest writers! This night is to see your comedy performance style/skills to know the best way to showcase your talent in our live performance. 

DAY TWO:  The first draft of your routine will be written, and you will work with Joey Paul, re writes will be made to perfect your performance!

DAY THREE/ FOUR: Perform and work on your routine with the new rewites until you reach perfection. 

DAY FIVE:  Polish and complete your routine, we will work together on each performance, polishing it to perfection to add that extra layer, and find more moments of funny!

 

ABOUT THE SHOW

Every actor will have the opportunity to perform at Vitellos Comedy Club and Restaurant for real infront of invited industry guests (like producers, directors, agents, managers, casting directors, and more!) Plus any family and friends that attend! 

(Show Notes:  It is free for the actors to perform if they choose to do so, however, there is a $15 cover charge to attend the event as a guest, & you must buy 2 drinks or $10 worth of food; which is normal for comedy clubs to host our shows!)
