Advanced Motivational Interviewing Training

This course is extremely experiential and should only be attended by individuals who have attended past workshops in Motivational Intervewing (MI) and actively practice MI. This course will focus on the continued development of MI skills and techniques. It will provide an in-depth review of the theory and skills that drive an MI conversation.  Additionally, this course will provide opportunities for clinical discussion and advanced practice and application of MI.  This training will utilize role play and video demonstrations to foster participant learning of more advanced MI skills.

This training will help participants:

  • Deepen your understanding of and the relationship between motivation, ambivalence, and readiness to change
  • Recognize and respond to subtle forms of change talk and discord
  • Explore combining MI with other modalities of treatment
  • Practice MI in the context of specific case example scenarios for group discussion and feedback
  • This training will be facilitated by Alexander Waitt, LPC, an experienced MI practitioner and SBIRT trainer with a commitment to delivering quality trainings that have a positive lasting effect.

    Lunch will not be provided.

6.5 CEUs will be available for peers and counselors (pending approval.)
