Keith O'Toole of Weil-McLain conducts this 3-hour class on high-efficiency boiler topics. The course will cover the application and installation of high efficiency boilers focusing on the theory of boiler efficiency, construction types of high efficiency heat exchangers, proper system application, venting systems and materials, proper system piping, control systems application and programming, as well as system maintenance and troubleshooting.

Class Outline:

• The theoretical principals of efficiency as well as application recommendations from industry standards organizations.  Performance curves from various technologies will be evaluated providing a framework for understanding combustion efficiency and system efficiency.

• The participant will be instructed on the heat exchange technology currently available to the industry allowing you to measure and differentiate the various technologies available.

• High efficiency boiler venting and combustion air requirements emphasizing safety and proper equipment operation; proper applications of various venting materials as well as applicable codes.

• New boiler and system piping requirements for high efficiency installations will be covered.  The participant will develop an understanding of the various piping requirements for modern high efficiency systems. 

• Proper installation of system component and ancillary items showing an integrated and complete systems approach.  The participant will learn component applications allowing for proper and efficient operation of the system.

• System startup emphasizing checkout and review of all safety items.  Proper combustion and setup utilizing instruments ensuring safety and optimizing efficiency.

• Proper water chemistry and chemical additive application to ensure system life cycle.

• Maintenance of various boiler technologies along with troubleshooting the boilers and attached systems. 

• Multiple boiler systems related to the various aspects of venting, piping systems and controls applications.

• This course will provide instruction on code requirements and industry-best practices.  The course will be delivered through lecture and hands-on system components will be utilized.
