First time offered in Bonita Springs. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported 8-week course designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion which helps us work with difficult emotions.

The inner critic’s voice can often rob us of our self-confidence and inner peace. MSC participants learn to respond to difficult moments with kindness, understanding, and self-care. This powerful tool helps us develop emotional resilience and enhances emotional well being.

The MSC program is based on the groundbreaking work of Christopher Germer, PhD, a leader in the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy, and Kristen Neff, PhD, a pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion. The benefits of MSC include lower levels of anxiety and depression, more satisfying personal relationships, and greater happiness.

In MSC you’ll learn to:

  • Practice mindfulness and self-compassion in daily life
  • Understand the science of self-compassion
  • Use self-compassion to live in accord with your values
  • Handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
  • Work with challenging relationships
  • Manage caregiver fatigue
  • Practice the art of savoring and self-appreciation
  • Teach simple self-compassion skills to others

This program is designed for members of the general public. Meditation experience is not necessary to participate in MSC. All are welcome! Program activities include discussion of topics, experiential exercises, meditation, small group interaction, and home practices.

Paulette will hold a free one-hour introductory talk on the MSC program on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 9:30 am. If you are considering enrolling in the MSC program it is highly recommended that you attend this free talk. To register for the free talk or to enroll in the 8-week MSC program call Paulette directly at 734-276-7707 or send an email to mindfulnesswithpaulette@gmail.com. Paulette Grotrian, MA

Paulette is a founding member of the Ann Arbor Center for Mindfulness in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Paulette teaches both Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), having participated in professional training in both programs through the Centers for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts and the University of California at San Diego, respectively. She has been practicing mindfulness meditation for over 20 years, and has studied with experts in the field including Jon Kabat-Zinn, Jack Kornfield, Thich Nhat Hanh, Sharon Salzberg, Chris Germer, and Kristen Neff.

Paulette says her practice has helped her with better focus, a healthier way to relate to what's difficult, more joy in everyday living, and developing deeper understanding, compassion, and kindness for herself and her fellow human beings. Paulette is Professor Emeritus of Interpersonal Communication at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan, retiring after thirty years of full-time teaching and six years of serving as Humanities Department Chair.  She continues to teach Family Communication online, a course which she developed for the college.
