Farm to School programs are popping up all over the U.S. These programs connect schools with local farms to serve healthy meals in school cafeterias, improve student nutrition, provide health and nutrition education opportunities, and support local small farmers.
This growing national movement is now taking root in West Virginia. On September 27-28, 2011, join us at the Lakeview Conference Center in Morgantown, WV to explore how we can make Farm to School a great success and benefit students, farmers and our communities.
We will be talking about purchasing, food safety, food preparation, pricing, supply and production/availability. And there will be plenty of opportunities for people to connect and network with each other!
Sponsors and partners include: Potomac Headwaters and WesMonTy RC&Ds, Center for Economic Options (CEO), WV Dept of Education's Office of Child Nutrition, WV Small Farm Center, West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition, and the WV Department of Agriculture.
Here is a DRAFT Agenda for the conference - We'll be adding details and speakers' names soon.
