Retreat Leader: Margaret Bullitt-Jonas

The Revd Margaret Bullitt-Jonas, PhD is an Episcopal priest, retreat leader, writer and climate activist.  As Missioner for Creation Care, she holds an ecumenical position in the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Conference, United Church of Christ.  Margaret is a founding member of the Massachusetts Interfaith Coalition for Climate Action and a leader in New England Regional Environmental Ministries.  Her most recent book, Joy of Heaven, To Earth Come Down, is a collection of daily Advent-Christmas meditations on the sacredness of the natural world.  She has published numerous articles in books, journals, and anthologies.  A graduate of the Spirtual Guidance programme of the Shalem Institution for Spiritual Formation, she served as chaplain for the Bishops of The Episcopal Church, and for many years she taught courses on prayer and spirituality at the Epsicopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA.  She hold a BA from Stanford, an MA and PhD fromHarvard, and an MDiv from Episcopal Divinity School.  She received the 2016 Steward of God's Creation Award from The National Religious Coalition on Creation Care.  One of the first to engage in civil disobedience to draw attention to climate chnage, Margaret was arrested in 2001 with 21 other religious activists outside the US Department of Energy in Washington DC.  She was arrested in 2016 with 15 other religious leaders in an act of prayerful resistance to construction of a gas pipeline in metropolitan Boston.  Last December she was at Standing Rock when the US Army Corps announced its decision not to move forward with the Dakota Access Pipeline (a decision which has since been revoked).  Her website, RevivingCreation.com, includes blog posts, sermons and articles.

The ecological crisis calls out for prayer.  It calls out for a growing awareness that we belong to the Earth and that the totality of the web of life is holy.  How does God speak to us through the natural world?  What gives us energy and hope as we struggle to protect God's creation?  How do we move through denial and despair into the joy of resurrected living?  Held in a beautiful natural setting, the retreat will explore a theological framework for "holding" our concern for Earth, its creatures and people.  The retreat will include presentations, guided meditation, small and large group conversation, singing, worship, and plenty of free time.

THIS IS A SILENT RETREAT.

Registration deadline is Monday, October 9th. 

SPACE IS LIMITED, so please register early.

There are a limited number of rooms in each category and they will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. Single rooms with a private bath are sold out, Single rooms with a bath shared with one other person are $145, and Single rooms with a bath shared with others are also sold out.  Your room category and choice will be confirmed by email.  Please note that your room selection may not be available.

Since this is a silent retreat, only single room accommodation is available.  Sharing rooms is not possible.

The registration fee includes your room and all meals (Lunch Monday to breakfast on Wednesday).

Payment must be made using a credit card and PayPal at the time you register.  Register early to avoid disappointment.  When registering you will be asked to notify us of your dietary requirements and to provide an emergency contact.

Due to the limited number of spaces, this retreat is open to active clergy in the first instance.  Retired clergy can indicate their interest to The Venerable Douglas Fenton, dfenton@vancouver.anglican.ca, who will contact you should there be spaces available after the registration deadline.

Please plan to arrive at Loon Lake after 11 am on Monday, October 23rd, but in time for lunch at 12 Noon.  The retreat will end at 12 Noon on Wednesday, October 25th. 

Cell reception at Loon Lake can be problematic.  There is a complimentary land line in the Dining Hall. Wireless internet is available.  Should someone need to reach you during the retreat, and if they are unable to contact you on your cell, they can call the Loon Lake Centre at 604-463-8149.

You will need a gate code to drive into the Research Forest-this code will be emailed to you when you complete the registration process.

PLEASE NOTE - CANCELLATION POLICY

We must confirm our numbers with Loon Lake well before the retreat and this retreat is heavily subsidized by the Diocese.  Therefore, cancellations received later than October 9th will not be eligible for a refund and will be subject to an additional fee to cover the complete cost of an individual attending this retreat.
