Lisa L. Hancock, Ph.D., MBA is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides neuropsychological assessments, counseling, and psychotherapy to children, teens, families, and adults, at Summit Center's Torrance office. She has experience with neurodevelopmental, learning, processing, anxiety, and mood disorders; including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, dyslexia, math and writing disorders, dysgraphia, auditory and visual processing, communication and language disorders, anxiety disorders, conduct disorders, and depressive disorders.  Dr. Hancock is experienced in conducting Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE); as well as supporting parents through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process. Additionally, she specializes in working with twice-exceptional individuals (those who are gifted and have concurrent learning or developmental challenges) as well as with individuals who are highly gifted. Dr. Hancock has worked as a Gifted Advocate for many years helping families of gifted and twice-exceptional children navigate both public and private school systems. She is a member of the PG Retreat Board, and speaks regularly at schools and conferences.


The Impact of Learning, Processing, and Developmental Disorders on Work, School, and Relationships 

Parents may wonder if their child’s difficulties -- or their own -- stem from a learning or developmental disorder. Neuropsychological evaluation can help identify specific challenges in one or more areas that are not due to intelligence or motivation. A comprehensive testing process can be used to help explain academic or work performance, behavioral issues, or social-emotional functioning. 

Join this live online presentation by Dr. Lisa Hancock of Summit Center’s Torrance office, on Thursday, November 5, at 7 pm (Pacific time) via Google Meet. Dr. Hancock will review the components of an assessment, types of learning, processing, and developmental disorders, and the benefits of a strengths-based approach, with time for your questions.

Unidentified and unsupported weaknesses can impact both children and adults in academic and work performance, as well as interpersonal interactions and relationships, which can lead to problems with anxiety, self-concept, and mood. Identifiable challenges might include learning disorders such dyslexia (problems with reading), dyscalculia (problems with math), and dysgraphia (problems with writing); or developmental disorders, such as ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
