The Family Court Professional Collaborative cordially invites you to register to attend Family Law Boot Camp - Part II - Beyond the Basics.  

This conference will focus on Honing the Skills of the Family Law Practitioner.  The morning presentations will include the Sarasota County Judiciary with special guest, Judge Peter R. Ramsberger from the 6th Circuit on the issues of parentage, addressing the complex issues related to establishment & disestablishment of paternity. Then, Magistrate Laura Hale will present on issues of Child Support and Department Of Revenue, followed by a presentation by the Court Operations Manager Monica Ausborn and Court Administrator Walter Smith on the new Self-Help Center.  Lunch will include resources concerning Special Needs children. The afternoon program will consist of presentations by Elizabeth Loeffler, Esquire and Deborah J. Blue, Esquire on Cross-Examining Expert Witnesses, Carmen R. Gillett, Esquire on Domestication of Foreign Judgements, and Phillip Schipani, Esquire on Handling Cases Involving Special Needs Children.  The day will conclude with Lynette Mancuso, Esquire presenting on Creating a Top Notch Practice Without Spending a Dime. 

The FCPC has received approval for 7.5 CLEs for attorneys from the Florida Bar Association, and 6 CME hours relevant to family mediators with 1.8 in diversity. No CEUs will be available for this event.

This event will be held at the Gold Coast Eagle Distributing in Lakewood Ranch, lunch will be provided to FCPC members and their supportive staff at the cost of $20 each, and  $50 for non-members. To order lunch, RSVP by Monday, February 11, 2019.

9:15 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.Addressing Complex Issues Related to the Establishment & Disestablishment of Paternity presented by Judge Donna P. Berlin and Judge Peter R. Ramsberger, 6th Judicial Circuit 

This presentation will focus on the various challenges attorneys and judges face when paternity cannot easily be determined.  By analyzing various scenarios, participants will be able to gain a better understanding of how to identify paternity issues in complex cases and achieve a legally sound outcome when possible.

10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.: Child Support and Department of Revenue:  Unlocking the Title IV-D Mystery presented by Hearing Officer/Magistrate Laura M. Hale

This presentation will provide an overview of Florida child support laws and the role of the Department of Revenue in child support cases, including the history of Title IV-D of the Social Security Act, and how private practitioners can navigate a child support case when the Department of Revenue is involved.  The presentation will cover a myriad of Florida Statutes, case law, what the law says must be in a child support order, income withholding orders, modifications of child support, and contempt/enforcement.

 11:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.:  Judge Lee E. Haworth Self Help Center and Law Library presented by Court Administrator Walter Smith and Court Operations Manager Monica Ausborn   How the new Self-Help Center and Law Library can assist Family Law Professionals in the 12th Circuit Court.

12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.Community Resources for Families with Special Needs Children and/or Parents: Facilitated by Shaun P. Hoyle, CPE   Agencies & Businesses will introduce themselves and provide a brief overview of their services offered to families with Special Needs parents and/or children.

1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.: “The Dos and Don’ts of Cross-Examining Expert Witnesses” presented by Elizabeth Loeffler, Esq.  This presentation will focus on how to prepare for Cross-examination of an expert witness.

1:45 p.m. - 1:50 p.m.:  Break

1:50 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.: “The Dos and Don’ts of Cross-Examining Expert Witnesses” presented by Deborah J. Blue, Esq.  This presentation will follow preparation, focusing on techniques when cross-examining an expert witness including a role-play.
