TOP DOCS AND HOT SHOTS 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT FOR CHICAGO AREA 5TH - 8TH GRADE BOYS WITH SOME OF CHICAGO'S FINEST MEN IN MEDICINE!

COME HOOP WITH CHICAGO'S TOP DOCS, RESIDENTS, MEDICAL STUDENTS AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS

The Disappearance Of Black Men From Medicine

The numbers don't lie.  Black men in medicine are disappearing at an alarming rate. There are now literally fewer black men practicing medicine than in 1970. There is an incredible need for minorities in medicine to tackle the massive physician shortage anticipated for 2025 that will hit vulnerable communities hardest.  Many kids do not believe they are capable of doing the work, especially our young boys. There are many reasons for this fallacy.  I AM ABEL FOUNDATION and IMPACT BASKETBALL, however, are partnering to provide a solution!

With help from some SUPER COOL doctors and healthcare leaders like YOU, we will introduce the joy of medicine to young, impressionable 5th-8th grade Chicago area boys over a game of this city's most beloved sport: Basketball.

Students on teams of 4 (3 +1) will enjoy a guarantee of 3 games.  The winners will advance into the competition and when prizes. There will be food, prizes, giveaways and a lunch time panel discussion with a few "black men in white coats" who will be present to "dispel the myth."  Enjoy a demonstration on CPR or techniques on how to STOP THE BLEED while your team waits!

So What Is The Game Day Schedule?

The day starts with onsite registration to make sure all registered students and teams are in place.  Tip off begins at 9am.  Each team is guaranteed 3 games. The top teams will advance to the championship.

Lunch will be around noon and will include food, panel discussions and motivational talks from men in medicine.  There is no cost to participate as a panelist or volunteer but there are options for you and your institutions to personally sponsor a team allowing the team to be named after you or your institution and to wear your branded gear!
Based on 24 teams (our dream number), the day would likely extend to about 4pm.  However a smaller number of teams will shorten the day.

So What Is My role?

I know you're thinking, "that's a long day!"  With our busy schedules it can be but please know that you are encouraged to recruit other men in medicine to help you coach your team, teach a skill or to simply get in where you fit in.

You will be given an assignment based on your area of interest with further instructions closer to the day!

Is there a Cost To Participate? Can I Become A Team Or Event Sponsor?

The short answer is no.  There is absolutely NO COST for you to participate as a panelist, coach or even a baller for our 3 on 3 event. In fact, we can't create amazing events without men like you.

But there is certainly the opportunity for you to participate in this event as a sponsor or to have your School, University or Medical Center to become a sponsor.

Our teams will all take on names of specialties highlighting the theme of our event.  Teams may be named anythihg from Urology to Pediatrics and every specialty in between.

As a team or corporate sponsor, you are invited to provide the shirts or gear of your choosing and to proudly display your business or institution's branded items.  This can spice up the friendly competition
