Join us as we identify and discuss new strategies, techniques, and programs to make our public places desirable destinations that promote healthy living. Attend workshops exploring the connections between urban planning, public health, parks and recreation.
This year's Keynote Speaker is A. Toni Yancey, Professor of Health Services and Co-Director of the UCLA Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Equity, UCLA School of Public Health; and author of critically acclaimed book, Instant Recess.
Dr. Yancey is a staunch advocate for chronic disease prevention, adolescent health promotion and health equity. Her most recent book, Instant Recess, proposes a new paradigm for fitness and public health that promises vitality, well being, and a greater sense of community - demonstrating, as Dr. Yancey argues, that what's good for the waistline is good for the bottom line.
This year's workshops include:
Roads on a Diet, Gardens in High Gear: Creating Healthy General Plans
Nutrition from the Ground Up
Walkable and Bikeable Urban Corridors
Visioning the Future of San Mateo County's Parks
Registration is FREE. Light breakfast provided.
