with guest speaker Dr. James Marshall

"Taming the Beasts: Organizing A Centralized Clinical Research System" 

Dr. James Marshall, Chief Research Officer and a Pediatric Intensivist at Cook Children's Health Care System since 2002. After undergradute and graduate education at Saint Louis University and Tulane Medical School, respectively, Dr. Marshall completed pediaric residency at Standford University followed by dual fellowships in Pediaric Critical Care Medicine and Clinical Pharmacolgy/Toxicology at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Upon invitation by his mentor, he moved to Kansas City, MO., to practice pediatric critical care medicine and mature as a pediatric clinical trials expert. Within a few years, he had accepted business and research leadership positions including Executive Vice President of the Anesthesia Associates of Kansas City and Associate Clinical Pharmacologist of the Children's Mercy Hospital Department of Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Therapeutic Medicine.

Moving to North Texas and Cook Children's Medical Center to practice Pediatric Intensive Care in a new, challenging medical environment spanning the entire spectrum of pediatric primary through quarternary care, Dr. Marshall was called to develope a collaborative, integrated system of pediatric reseach administration which now provides the entire range of support servics, operational and business, to Cook Children's burgeoning multispecialty research program.

Dr. Marshall believes in providing innovative care, every day, to infants and children through research-driven therapeutc algorithms and drug/device development protocols, and the discovery of novel medical truth rooted in direct observations by expert clinicians.
