2019 WCSS Annual Conference

On March 17-18, our annual conference will once again be held at the Madison Concourse.  It’s an awesome venue right by the capitol, museums, and restaurants. Our theme for the conference is “Exploring the Social Studies”, and we have three awesome keynote speakers that will highlight the show.  Michael Matera, author of “Explore Like a Pirate” and classroom teacher extraordinaire will lead off on Sunday, offering inspiring ways to increase student engagement. On Monday morning, polar explorer Eric Larsen will share with his experiences traveling across the globe and offer lessons on leadership, overcoming obstacles, and achieving goals. Mary Beth Tinker will close the conference by discussing her work as a student rights activist and detailing how she pushes young people to explore their constitutional rights

The conference also includes an unconference on Sunday morning, with fellow teachers pitching sessions and sharing ideas directly from the classroom.  General sessions run throughout Sunday and Monday, offering something for every level and every content area. We also have over 20 exhibitors that offer resources and support for social studies teachers in all disciplines.  Don’t forget the popular wine and cheese in the exhibit hall on Sunday afternoon, fun and challenging pub trivia on Sunday evening, and a delicious lunch on Monday! If you have any basic questions on the conference, please consult our WCSS conference FAQs page.
