An evening with The York Normandy Veterans

Spend an evening in the company of D-Day veterans who are determined that their stories and experiences are passed on. You'll hear their memories of their time as young men thrown into a bloody war. Using film trailers and conversation; here is an chance to here the story of these Last Liberators in their twilight years.

'The Last Liberators' is a short documentary film that follows the British 'York Normandy Veterans' group (Ken Cooke, Douglas Petty, Sid Metcalfe, Ken Smith and Bert Barritt). You'll see their heart-warming interactions with members of the public, at home and abroad, as well as anecdotes about the effects of the Second World War.

The award-winning verbatim play Bomb Happy, which brings to life the first-hand accounts of five Normandy Veterans, tells the stories of five ordinary lads who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances, following each veterans’ unique journey and depicting how these inexperienced young conscripts found themselves as part of one of the most dangerous and audacious operations of World War II.

We regularly welcome York Normandy Veterans to Bedern Hall for their gatherings and reunions. Tyeve kindly agreed to take part in this evening as a fund raiser for the Hall.

Tickets are £10 each which includes refreshments
