TALKING THRU HER HAT
Hats and the Women Who Wore Them
Is a hat a frivolous accessory or a necessity? Research of the history quickly indicates that hats have been both. Human beings sought protection from the elements; thus, hats had practical implications. However, they also were used for adornment, much like today. Hats have a long history as markers of status, occupation, and even political affiliation. This exhibit is a rare view of the hats in our Museum collection and also those on loan from collectors in our community.
