Register for the CMH Medication Management Lunch and Learn

Pharmacists at Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) will host a free Lunch and Learn seminar on medication management Friday, August 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CMH Community Rooms located at 1500 N. Oakland, Bolivar.

Adults 65 and older use more medicine daily than any other age group in the United States, accounting for 34 percent of all prescription medication, according to the National Council on Patient Information and Education. For the elderly, especially those who suffer chronic conditions that require multiple medicines, managing prescriptions alone can be extremely difficult.

Family members and caregivers can assist their loved ones by helping them keep track of their medications and make sure they're taken at the right time, and in the correct dosage. Between 40 and 75 percent of older people do not take their medications correctly, according to the council.

During the Lunch and Learn, the CMH pharmacy team will address: keeping track of medications; how to dispose of expired medications; explain the dangers of not taking prescribed medication as well as interactions that can occur between prescriptions, herbs and certain foods; and becoming addicted to pain killers.

The pharmacists will also be able to help attendees make a medication list between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. during the event. Time slots are available when you register for the Lunch and Learn on-line.

A light lunch will be served and reservations are requested.
