ALR Run To The Thunder Weekend 2021

May 28-31

Washington, DC

The world has signficantly changed since our last Run To The Thunder in 2019, but your American Legion Riders at Post 177 in Fairfax, Virginia, still plan to host events over the 2021 weekend.

American Legion Post 177 in Fairfax, VA is pleased to once more serve as your host Post, and as your hub for activities throughout the Memorial Day Weekend.

Many of the events that we are accustomed to having over the weekend are unknowns at this point: The Candlelight Vigil Ride, the Wreath-Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, and the "main event" on Sunday morning, now called "Rolling to Remember" and hosted by the AMVETS, from the Pentagon into Washington DC.

We are doing our best to find out if "The Ride of the Patriots" from Fairfax into the Pentagon parking lots is still happening, as well as whether the AMVETS will continue with plans for Rolling to Remember into Washington DC.  (At this point, their website indicates it as a GO.)

As you all know, Washington DC is not the calm beautiful city right now that we normally expect to see in Spring, and the annual arrival of hundreds of thousands of bikers might be unsettling to some.

There are also unknowns about the limits on gatherings - both inside of our Post and outside in our Post parking lot. More info will be provided, particularly if you register. But at this point Post 177 plans to adhere to whatever Federal, State, and local guidance are in place for group gatherings at that time.

So what ARE we planning to do? Well if our Post 177 agrees and is permitted to hold gatherings outside of the building in larger numbers than currently allowed (currently at 25), then our ALR plans to lead local rides on Sat, Sun and possibly Monday.

We hope that you will indicate your interest for these rides as part of your Registration process, so that we can properly plan.

And if the other events materialize (Candlelight Vigil, Arlington, and Rolling to Remember into DC), then we'll participate in those, too. Many of us have spent a lot time in the military learning to "be flexible".   Here's where it all pays off!

However things work out our goal, as always, is to ride as an organized and respectful body, proudly representing the American Legion.

For details throughout the weekend, please keep up to date with the AGENDA that will be posted on our website at:
