Wednesday Evenings: I want justice—oceans of it! (Amos 5:24)

A just society is one characterized by equal treatment before the law, equal access to opportunities, and mutual respect between citizens.  How does Baltimore measure up, and what can we do to make it stronger? Come hear from three local voices, calling us to break down the barriers that separate us and build one Baltimore, where justice is a reality for ALL.

Please register to join us for a simple supper from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and a  speaker from 7:00-8:00 p.m. These evenings are free and open to all.

September 21: Joe Jones, founder and CEO of Center for Urban Families

Since its founding in 1999, CFUF has remained at the front-line of addressing some of our city’s most pressing issues, including poverty, unemployment, father-absence and family disintegration.  Central to CFUF’s mission is the belief that men—the most disconnected and underserved citizens in urban communities—who connect with women, their children, and the workplace, are key to the restoration of stability and optimism.

September 28: Judge Andre Davis, 4th Circuit Court

A native of Baltimore, Andre M. Davis has been a judge for over two decades.  Upon graduating from law school, Davis served as law clerk to Judge Frank A. Kaufman and then to Judge Francis D. Murnaghan, Jr. He also served as an appellate attorney for the Civil Rights Division for the U.S Department of Justice and as an Assistant United States Attorney in Baltimore. In 1987, Davis was appointed as associate judge of the District Court of Maryland for Baltimore City. Next, he was appointed as associate judge of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. In 1995, Davis was nominated and confirmed to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.  Davis has been a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit since 2009.

October 5, Richard Gibson, Baltimore police, Northern District Commander

Graduate of University of Baltimore and Johns Hopkins, Commander Gibson will speak about the recent Department of Justice report on Baltimore policing and invite ways that concerned citizens can offer support and constructive change.
