 Improving Interdepartmental Relationships:
A Toolkit for Training & Development Practitioners

Strained or ineffective interdepartmental relationships are a pervasive performance problem in organizations, often revealed in customer and employee satisfaction surveys.   Such limitations negatively affect morale and the bottom line.  Training and development practitioners are called upon to help as a trainer, facilitator, consultant and/or coach.

This practical session will focus on common definitions, current and desired levels of interdepartmental relationships, barriers that impede effectiveness and a menu of corrective strategies that practitioners can use to effect positive change.

Facilitator: Dr. Brian Moffitt

Dr. Brian Moffitt

Dr. Brian Moffitt has been helping individuals, teams and organizations make positive change through training, facilitation and consultation for over 20 years.  He received his bachelor's and master's degree in communication from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts and his doctorate in leadership studies from the University of San Diego.  From 2001 – 2009 he was the Organizational Development Manager for the City of Sacramento, where he and his team provided training, career development, wellness, inclusion/diversity and continuous improvement services.  He won the Sacramento Workplace Excellence Leadership (SWEL) award in 2003 and 2008 from the Sacramento Human Resource Association and the 2010 "Outstanding Teacher Award" from the University of San Francisco.  A published author, Brian also taught graduate classes in leadership and organization development for the University of San Francisco (Sacramento Campus) and Golden Gate University. He is currently the principal consultant for his consulting company, "Good Work NOW!", as well as the producer/host of the webcast of the same name.  In addition to teaching at Drexel University, he is an adjunct Professor in Leadership at Drexel University for graduate and doctoral students and teaches Communication classes at Keiser University. Having had a rocky start in the work world, Brian is committed to helping others find the right job and create a productive and satisfying work environment for themselves and those they lead.
