Whiskies of the World (WoW)

A Taste of Scotland: Understanding Scotch Whisky

This seminar on Scotch making and tasting will address Scotch Whisky blends and single malts, distilling style, cereal grains used and steps included in the finished product which are all crucial in identifying the differences in whiskies. This seminar will present 6 Scotch whiskies for tasting paired with matching hors d’oeuvres.

You will get recognized professional expertise on distilled spirits and wine from Russ Kempton, Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS).  Russ has been in the alcoholic beverage industry for over twenty-five years and has participated in over 1,400 seminars and training events, publicly and privately, related to distilled spirits and wine.  He has an excellent understanding and expertise of single malt Scotch, having traveled on numerous occasions to distilleries throughout Scotland; plus distilleries and wineries throughout North and South America.  Russ was a state brand ambassador for two leading Scotch whisky distilleries.  For the past 13 years he has been a visiting instructor in Survey of Beverage Alcohol classes at a major university in the southwest.  On multiple occasions by invitation only, Russ has presented this seminar at the prestigious Society of Wine Educators Conference (SWE).  For non-scotch drinkers, there will be 6 wines available.
